summer activities for kids - free kids activities and childrens crafts for the summer

Summertime Activities

The kids are out of school and they have the long lazy days of July and August ahead. They could spend their summer days in front of the TV or your children could be using their imaginations to create projects that are a reflection of their own unique talents.

Does it matter what kids do on their summer vacation? After all, they are in school 10 months of the year and most do take some art classes. Don’t they get enough art classes in school?

Creative and artistic are not the same thing. Creativity is an approach to life. Creative thinkers know that problems have many different solutions. When they encounter an obstacle, they find a way around rather than giving up. They have to be willing to take risks as they learn new skills. These are important life skills that need to be encouraged in children.

Summer activities, childrens crafts and science projects give children the opportunity to learn and practice these skills. Even if they follow a project guide exactly, they will still to make decisions about shades of colors and where to place items. Once they are familiar with the project, most children will want to make it again. That is when they get really creative. First the colors change, then the shapes, and suddenly it is a new project from their own imagination.

Creative projects encourage children to find the resources to make what they want, rather than opening up a box that has all the supplies in one place. The first project in the weekly project list (see below) uses an old knee-hi or pair of pantyhose. What if none are available? Should the children wait until someone else finds all the ‘right’ materials. No, have them start thinking about what they could substitute. Would an old sock work? How about a dish cloth? It is fun to sit back and watch children solve their own problems.

These Summer Activities encourage children to work with a wide variety of materials. One of the best things about summer projects is that they can be done outside. Less mess to clean up!

Boost Your Metabalism Now!

Do you lack energy? Do you try to lose weight with not much success? Are you confused when you try to buy good healthy food?
Well I know I can answer yes to all the above.

But that's all changed for me. I tried yet another diet plan. But what makes this diet plan different then the others is that this plan actually educates you on reading ingredient labels, and tells you how to make healthy food choices.

I was surprised to learn that the choices I normally made for healthy food, weren't all that healthy. And eating food that aren't all that healthy for you lead to a sluggish metabolism.
And when your metabolism slows down your weight lose stops and you feel that lack of energy.

Ok! With that said, Do you wanna learn how I lost 5 pounds within the first week? How I noticed a great increase of energy in just a few days?

Well check out

The Healthy Way To Lose Weight!

I joined the 6 week weight loss camp
Which includes
Educational CD's
Educational MP3 downloads
and a 6 week support system

This diet plan is great whether you have a little or a lot to lose.
And best of all there is a 100% satisfaction guarantee!

If you don't know a good carb from a bad carb, or are confused about fats and how they are healthy for you, give this plan a try.

Thanks everyone!

Making the Most of Reading with you child

Here are some tips on making the most of reading with your child.
•Choose a time and a place where you can be quiet and give your child lots of attention. Make the occasion a special one.
•Turn off any distractions such as the TV, music or the computer.
•When you are reading aloud, show your child that you are having fun!
•Involve your child. Let yourself be interrupted with questions; talk about what you think of the story and the pictures.
•When your child has started learning to read, follow the text and encourage him or her to point to the words as you go along.
•Establish a routine. Try to devote some time every day to reading.
•Take your child to your local library and involve him or her in choosing books.
•Notice what kinds of stories your child enjoys and look out for ones with similar themes.
•When you are reading aloud, praise your child for listening well and sitting still. When your child is learning to read to you, give praise and encouragement too, but be sure to gently correct your child when he or she makes mistakes.
•Help build your child's vocabulary and memory skills by supplementing reading sessions with audio books on car journeys and after meals or at bedtime. Audio books are especially helpful in building memory skills and supporting the learning of dyslexic and autistic children.

Sharing your child's journey into reading can be one of the most rewarding experiences of parenthood. You owe it to your child, and to yourself, to make it a priority in your daily life.

My Blog is now carbon neutral

Hi,

thank you so much for participating in our initiative and making your blog
carbon neutral! Your tree will be planted this month by the Arbor Day
Foundation. The scheduled start plant date was Monday, April 19 and the trees
will be planted by a contracted crew. The roads are being plowed, all contracts
solidified, and twelve shipments of 150,000 seedling each are being assembled.
We thank you for the support!

There are still some trees looking for a sponsor. So if you know some people who
have a blog or website, pass it on and we'll make their blogs carbon neutral
too!

Best,
Christin

My Blog is Neutral!!

carbon neutral coupons and shopping with kaufDA.de

How does a tree neutralise your blog’s carbon footprint?

How much carbon dioxide does your blog create?
According to a study by Alexander Wissner-Gross, PhD, physicist at Harvard University and environmental activist, an average website causes about 0.02g (0,0008oz.) of carbon dioxide for each visit. Assuming an average blog gets 15,000 visits a month, it has yearly carbon dioxide emissions of 3,6kg (8lb.). This can mainly be tracked back to the immense energy usage from (mainframe) computers, servers, and their cooling systems.
Does your blog have more than 15,000 visitors a month? Just e-mail us at CO2-neutral@kaufda.de. We make sure we neutralise your blog too.

How much carbon dioxide does a tree absorb?
Unfortunately, no precise answer is possible. The carbon dioxide absorption of a tree can differ a lot. The amount of carbon dioxide that a tree can absorb depends on the type of tree, light exposure, length of the vegetation period, latitude, water balance, and the soil conditions.
There are many different calculations for the saving potential of a tree. The assumed values vary between 10 and 30kg (20 and 70lb.) for a tree each year. It is certain however, that in its first two to three years a tree absorbs relatively little carbon dioxide. In the growth phase following this, the absorption rate increases rapidly. During this time, the tree safes a considerable amount of carbon dioxide. The absorption rate decrease again from the age of 18.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) assumes a yearly absorption of one tree of approximately 10kg (20lb.) carbon dioxide emissions. “Make it green”, the environmental programme of kaufDA, is using a yearly absorption value of 5kg (11lb.) for its “My blog is carbon neutral” initiative. This is a very conservative calculation, ensuring that the neutralisation of each blog is achieved.
One tree neutralises the carbon dioxide emissions of your blog
As demonstrated in the above calculation, the atmosphere can be relieved by an average of 5kg (11lb.) carbon dioxide every year by planting one tree. An average blog causes 3.6kg (8lb.) of carbon dioxide emissions. Consequently, a tree neutralises the carbon dioxide emissions of a blog. Since a tree lives for an average of 50 years, carbon dioxide emissions of your blog can be completely neutralised for this time period.

Earth Day is nearly here but at Barefoot Books, everyday is Earth Day! Help children learn how to protect the planet with  our books! We have a wonderful collection of titles that encourage environmental awareness and show children what they can do to help the earth.

Earth Day

To celebrate Earth Day, here are some tips that might help you save the earth and save some money:
  • Set your computer and monitor to sleep mode - Setting your computer to sleep mode takes only a few seconds, but can reduce electricity use by 87% compared to leaving it on (desktop computer). Modern computers are not damaged by frequent start up and shut down, and the surge of energy to start up the computer is very small relative to the energy used by leaving the computer on
  • Drink tap water, not bottled - According to a New York Times article, Americans will throw out over 30 billion single serving bottles of water this year! If you are concerned about your tap water, use a filter on the faucet-a much more eco-friendly way of ensuring pure water
  • Assess your business/household carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.  Set your own business/ household greenhouse gas reduction target at ClimateCare
